Atherton, age 29, as head of household, is listed with his brother-in-law, Bernard Evans, age 28, and Eleanor Evans, age 82 [presumably Bernard`s mother?](all ages at birthday in 1884). They are listed as residing on Township 82, Range 42, Section 27, S.E. S.W., Henry`s occupation is `Farmer,` Place of Birth `Wales,` with parentage of both parents marked as `F` for foreign (vs. N for native), and a mark in the column `Alien who has taken out first papers.` Bernard`s occupation is marked `Farmer` by use of ditto marks, Place of Birth Wales by use of ditto marks, parentage of both parents marked as `F` for foreign by use of ditto marks. Eleanor`s occupation is marked `Farmer` by use of ditto mmarks, Place of Birth Wales by use of ditto marks, parentage of both parents marked as `F` for foreign by use of ditto marks. [Not clear why Bernard, and presumably his mother, were living with Henry E. and not with his wife Eleanor and daughters since the 1900 U.S. Census shows Bernard, Eleanor and two daughters arrived in the U. In the 1900 U. S. Census, Henry Elias is reported as married for 15 years to his wife, Margaret Proffit, who was born Mar 1856, age 44, mother of 8 children, with 5 of them living as follows: Winnie, born Jun 1887, age 12; Cecil, born Jan 18922, age 8; Louise, born Feb 1894, age 6; Dudley, born July 1897, age 2; and Stanley, born July 1897, age 2, all single, all born in Iowa and all, except for the twins, `At School` for 9 months. The family is reported as living in an owned house in Missouri Valley, St. John Township, Iowa and the column for the house as mortgaged or free has been left blank. Henry Elias` birthdate is listed as Aug 1854, age 45, married for 15 years, and his reported birthplace as well as both of his parents as England. His year of immigration is 1881 with 18 years of living in the U. S., and his `Naturalized citizen` status is marked as `na.` His occupation is `Upholsterer` with zero months not employed.

His age is listed as 64, married, col. 13 `Year of immigration to the U. S.` as `1881,`, col. 14 `Naturalized or alien` has `na` entered, and col.15 `If naturalized, year of naturalization` has `1888` entered. Henry`s Place of birth is listed as `Wales,` Mother tongue as `Welsh,` his father`s Place of birth is listed as `England,` Mother tongue as `English,` and his mother`s Place of birth is listed as `Wales,` Mother tongue as `Welsh.` Henry`s occupation is reported as salesman of retail furniture and he is working for wages. Also reported in the same household and address are Stanford N. Bird, relationship, son-in-law, age 31, birthplace Iowa, working for wages as a salesman of groceries, and Stanford`s wife, Winifred E., age 29, the daughter of Henry Elias, birthplace Iowa, working for wages as a stenographer in a lawyer`s office.
