- In the 1900 U. S. Census, Louisa is listed as living in Lincoln Township with her husband, Edward, age 58, and a son, Edward A., age 17, with her birthdate of Sept 1853, age 46, married for 20 years, with a birthplace of Massachusetts, the same for both of her parents. She is the mother of one child who is still living.

In the 1920 U. S. Census, Louisa is reported as age 66, living with her son Edward. Louisa`s bithplace as well as both parents is listed as Massachusetts.

`OBITUARY
Louise [sic] Marie Grout, youngest daughter of Otis and Louise Grout, was born in Spencer, Mass., Sept. 28, 1853 and passed away at her home near Woodbine, Iowa, Aug. 8, 1928, at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 20 days. When eight years old hher parents moved to Lyons, Iowa [note: cannot locate on current road map] where she grew to womanhood and graduated from Lyon`s high school. For years she was a very successful teacher. In the spring of 1880 she decided to make a home of her owown and gave her hand in marriage to Edward A. Atherton, locating on their farm near Dunlap, Iowa. To them was born one son, Edward Arthur, who now lives in the on the home place. In early years she surrendered her life to her Savior and devoutly lived a christian life up to the time of her Masters call, `Come, for all things are now ready` `Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.` She leaves to mourn her departue, her son, Edward Arthur; one sister, Mrs. Nora Miers of Mansfield, Wash.; one brother, Gilford Grout of Archer, Texas. Many other relatives and a host of friends. [sic] Her husband preceeded her in death Oct. 18, 1910.
The funeral service was conducted Friday [August 10] afternoon at the Church of Christ by Rev. Jackson Giddens of the Methodist church. The W. R. C. [Women`s Relief Corps] conducted the ritualistic services at the church. Burial was made in the Woodbine cemetery.`
