Donald Lewis Verrette was born on July 7, 1932 Flint, Michigan Died Feb 1, 2013 Oscoda, Michigan. He was the son of Paul Percy Verrette and Bertha Jane (Howard) Verrette. Donald was born premature and his mother had Preeclampsia and so his motheer passed away the day of Don's birth. Don had a step mother who he loved very much Frances Jane (Comstock) Smith Verrette a divorced mother of three children Helena, Sarah Jane and LaVerne "Dutch "Edward. Don also had three older siblings Bertha "June", Clifford and Arlene. Don spent much of his childhood living and working for both sets of grandparents on their farms in Clare, Michigan. His grandparents were Joseph and Celina (Ratty) Verrette and Gilbert Howard and his second wife Chhloetta (Bonham) Corbin Buckley Howard Abbot. Donald's maternal grandmother Sarah Jane (Carr) Howard died in 1918. Don dropped out of school in 7th grade; School was difficult for Don as he had dyslexia and never could learn to read. He worked on several farms as a young man and was able to buy his own car long before he could "legally" drive it. Don was married four times and he was divorced four times. His first wife was Charlotte Barbara (Lauthrie) Verrette Cooper they had one daughter Diane Charlene. His second wife Ruth Irene (Doty) Verrette Smith they had two children Donna Louise and George Charles. His third wife was Elizabeth Ann "Betty" (Atherton) Verrette and they had no children. Donald's forth wife was Laverne Eddna (Giese) Lasota Verrette she was a divorced mother with three daughters Jeanette, Linda and Sharon and they had one daughter together Bertha Marie. When Don was about 18 he went to work for Buick at plant 36 in Flint, Michigan he retired after 30 years he then moved to Oscoda, Michigan as it was always his dream to move up north after retirement and that is where he lived till he died. Don was a military veteran; he served in the Army during Korea he mustered in on 6 Nov 1952 at Detetroit, Michigan was honorably discharged on 31 Aug 1954 Fort Sheridan, Illinois. He did his training at Camp Atterbury Indiana as a Pvt. In the B 104th Artillery and was certified on 14 Mar 1953 Fort Sheridan, Illinois. His most significant dutty assignment is listed as Btry "D" 15th AAAAW Bn (Sp). His service medals were Service ribbon/2 Bronze Service stars/ United Nations Service Medal/ National Defense Service Medal. Don was a man of emotions. He could be generous and he'd give yoou the shirt off his back and he could be gentle and loved animals he would even cry watching an old Lassie movie. He could also be as fiery as his once red hair would tell you his temper could explode like a volcano. Dad liked to drink and party and his laughter would ring out loud and everyone new that laugh and that Don was in the room. He would love to crack a joke and say exactly what he was thinking at the time, he would hold nothing back. There was nothing fake he was always himmself.Donald was preceded in death by his parents his brother Clifford and sister June two children daughter Donna and son George he leaves behind one sister Arlene and daughters Diane and Bertha five grandchildren six great grandchildren and one great-great grandson born last year.
