- In the 1900 U. S. Census, James W. is listed in the household of his father (James) and as born Nov 1891, age 8, single, and at school for 9 months. Also listed were his siblings: Hattie E., born Jan 1881, age 19; Charles H., born Oct 1885, age 14; Sarah E., born Feb 1887, age 13; Raymond B., born Sept 1890, age 9; Ida M., born Sept 1893, age 6; and Verna E. born Jan 1897, age 3. All children were single, born in Iowa, and all except for Verna `At school` for nine months.

In the 1920 U. S. Census, James is reported as living with his wife Irene, age 22, and daughter Arline, age 5, in his home free of mortgage in the Cincinnati Precinct of Harrison County, age 28, married, birthplace of Iowa , his father`s as Wales with mother tongue as English, and his mother`s as Iowa, his occupation as `Laborer` in `Farming` for his own account.
