In the 1910 U. S. Census, Roger is listed as age 24, living in the South Ontario precinct with his wife, Nellie M. (misspelled as Mellie), age 22. Roger`s birthplace is listed as Iowa, his father`s as Wales and his mother`s as Iowa. Nellie`s birthplace is listed as Oregon, and Tennessee is listed for both of her parents. Roger`s occupation is listed as `Farmer Gen Farm` for his own account on rented property and filing farm schedule number 87. Nellie`s occupation is listed as none (their first child, Wilbur, was born two months after the date of this Census enumeration).
1910 U. S. Census, Malheur Co., Oregon, (National Archives Microfilm T624, Roll 1283), E.D. 98, Sheet 10B, Lines 76-77.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the 1920 U. S. Census, Roger is listed as a farmer renting property in the Cairo Precinct, Ontario, Oregon, engaged in `general farming` and working as `employee, salary or wage worker` rather than `working for own account.` He is listed with his wife (Nellie M.) and four children (Wilbur, H., Chas., Mabel W. and Louise C.) His birthplace is listed as Iowa, his father`s as Tennessee [rather than Wales] and his mother`s as Tennessee [rather than Iowa]. This was an enumerator error since for Nellie M., her father`s and mother`s birthplaces are correctly listed as Tennessee, and yet these same places were entered for Roger`s parents. [NOTE: NEED a worksheet for this report, then copy to the Notes for the children listed.]
