- 1837 on line searched for birth Mar 1844 - Dec 1858 - no success! Where does the name `Mackal` come from? A `possible` on IGI is Ada Barker christened on 29 Apr 1855 at Eyam, Derby. Mother Hannah Barker (no father named). Despite requesting help from the Local Studies Library in Matlock (they double checked the birth index from 1848 to 1856), they could not trace her birth registration - `The birth wasn`t registered because she was illegitimate - it was up to the parents to notify the authorities of a birth`.
1861 census (6), b. Liverpool, living at Cookers` Yard (?) Eyam - shown as Granddaughter. Head is Ann Barker (54) b. Oldham, Lead Miners Widow. At home Luke (25), John (23), Robert (22) and Thomas Swails Barker (18) all lead miners, Ann Barker (16) a gen servant. Also Alice Rollinson (19) a cotton weaver (Niece) and a visitor Ellen Sleightam (20) a cotton weaver.
1871 census (16) living in Eyam, Derbyshire, shown as Grandaughter to Ann Barker (64) with Henry R (3) b. Longstone and Herbert Barker (12) b. Longstone. Next door but one is Luke Barker + William (10) Ann (7) and Arthur (3) all born Eyam.
1873 - Ann Barker died aged 67 years on 31 March 1873 at Eyam of Natural Causes. Widow of Luke Barker a Carpenter. Ada Barker present at death Eyam. Registered on 24 Apr 1873.
NB Ada Barker was Granddaughter.
1878 - Free BMD Marriage Mar Q 1878 Stockport 8a 31. Certificate received -Ada Mackal Barker aged 23, married Alfred Atherton (24) on 7 Jan 1878 at the Parish Church Heaton Norris, Stockport. He is a Tailer she is a servant, residence for both `Heaton Norris` Alfreds father - Peter Atherton, Bobbin Turner - Ada`s father - Hannah Barker, Single woman! Witnesses - Henry Lee and Hannah Frith. (Her mother?). NB: IGI record the marriage as Alfred `Uherton` 7 Jan 1878 St Thomas Heaton Norris Lancashire (Parents: Mother: `Hannah Barker OR single woman`)
In 1881 census living at Miers, Gt Longstone with Holme, was Alfred Atherton Head Mar 27 Tailor b. Stockport and Ada Atherton Wife Mar 28 b. Liverpool. NB: This would make her born in 1853!
1883 - 13 July gave birth to Ernest. Atherton - birth cert held.
1887 - Jun Q Bakewell 7b 781 gave birth to Frances Mary E Atherton. (Free BMD)
1889 - Dec Q Bakewell 7b 712 gave birth to Eva Atherton. (Free BMD)

Death Certificate - .Ada Atherton died on 18th May 1931 at 21 Fairview Rd, Burnley aged 76 Widow of Alfred Atherton a Journeyman Tailor. Cause `Cerebral Haemorrage`. Informant daughter Eva Newton also of 21 Fairview Rd was present at death.
From Chris - Burnley Library look-up. Ada bought grave no A7595 for husband Alfred on 16 May 1918. Her own burial no was 102183. She was living at 21 Fairview Road, Burnley at time of death. (Her son Ernest joined them in the grave on 9 Sep 1939).In the 1911 Census living at Matlock Street Bakewell was Alfred Atherton Head M 59 Tailor (Maker) b. Stockport Cheshire, Ada Atherton Wife M (23 Years) - total children born alive 11, still living 3, died 8 (NB only 4 traced) b. Liverpool Lancs, Eva Atherton Dau S 21 Fancy Embroideress b. Longstone Derbyshire.
