- Rachel Helen Lloyd
Rachel Lloyd Atherton, 91 of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the Owensboro Medical Health Systems. Born in Fordsville on January 13, 1921, she was the daughter of the late
Rev.Alva Lloyd and Katherine Hedden Lloyd; was retired from General Electric and Ben Franklin; was a HELP Office volunteer for over 30 years; and has been a member of Seven Hills Baptist Church for over 60 years. Mrs Atherton was also a member of the Daviess County After 5 Homemakers and enjoyed sewing
and crocheting. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs Atherton was a very special lady and will be sadly missed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years. Leslie "Red" Atherton; a brother, John Lloyd; and sisters, Olive Clarke, Mary Currry,
Crissie Grant, and Freda Rice.
Surviving are her children, Lesta (Dennis) Burling, Eddie (Angie) Atherton, and Danny Atherton all of Owensboro; grandchildren, Jason Burling of Owensboro, Lori (Major James) Alves of Goldsboro, NC, Sgt Kip (Olivia) Atherton of Seoul, South Korea, Katie (Adam) Vincent of Louisville, and Courtney Atherton and
Ethan Atherton of Owensboro; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Morgan Burling and Noah Vincent; and several nieces and nephews and extended family members.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Robert Schell and Dr. Jeremy Luckett and the nursing staff at Owensboro Medical Health System for their care and concern during Mrs. Atherton's illness.
Services are 10:am Friday, March 30, 2012 in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Dr. T.A. Prickett officiating followed by burial in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday and after 9 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the donor's favorite charity.
