- In the 1841 Census living at Standishgate, Wigan, Lancs was John Atherton 35 Ag Lab `Y` to born in County, Ellen Atherton 40 Y, Thomas Atherton 15 Cotton Spinner Y, Alice Atherton 14 Cotton Spinner Y.In the 1861 Census living at 22 Hallgate, Wigigan, Lancs was John Atherton Lodger [Father in Law] Widr 58 Brickmaker b. Wigan. Head was Richard Taylor M 41 Brickmaker b. Pemberton, Alice Taylor Wife M 35 b. Wigan, Peter Taylor Son 15 Carpenter b. Standish, Margaret Taylor Dau 13 Dressmaker b. Wigan. 2 other lodgers at home - William Mears Unm 23 Carpenter b. Liverpool, Thomas Longmore Unm 22 Comedian b. Manchester.I think this child is actually Alice and the entry is a transcription error or an error in the baptism register. The name of the mother was written down twice. There is no sign of this Ellen and otherwise no baptism of the Alice listed in the 1841 census. There is no death of an Ellen between supposed birth and the census of 1841.
