Some notes from Stuart Calderbank:
My Grandmother Eva, Worked at Haddon Hall as a servant. My Grandfather (George Newton) worked for Ormes, who were Greengrocers (now taken over by Somerfield in Bakewell) He used to deliver groceries to Haddon Hall and Chatsworth and I presume this is how they met.(Ormes stable block were still in evidence a few years ago and I have a photograph, but have now been demolished) I have never discovered why or when they moved to Burnley. He was in the first world war with his brother Jack who was gassed and never fit to work at anything strenuous. Their Father bought them grocers shops in Burnley and I visited these often.I still have a Grenade made into a money box, which was given to me by my Grandad. My Grandma, Eva, later worked for a Doctor, I think in Bakewell, who kept a monkey as a pet and she was afraid of it because it used to bite her.
