    • In the 1920 U. S. Census, `Arthur C.` [sic], age 9, is listed with his parents, J. Bela [Bela was the name used by family and friends], age 35, and `Callie` [again the name used by family and friends], age 30, and his brother, `C. Earl,` age 7.
      1920 U. S. Census, Malheur Co., Oregon, (National Archives Microfilm T625, Roll 1497), Vol. 13, E.D. 127, Sheet 19, Lines 1-4.
      -------------------------------------------------------------
`written by Arthur Atherton on April 16th, 1989 and is intended to explain things relating to the two sets of information which was mostly gathered by Myra Atherton (the wife of my cousin Wilbur Atherton and reserved [?] by my wife Letha Atherton. I am thinking you will all be interested some day about the family background. The information contained in the two sets attached are factual. I will now record additional information and clarification of the facts contained therein.

I will take the ruled [ sp. pages?] first:

Harriet was my greatgrandmother. She lived with my grandparents in the big house at 887 SW 1st Street in Ontario, when I was a little boy. (perhaps it will be intereting to note that your grandmother and I bought this same home at 887 SW 1st street in 1942 and lived there until Nov. 11 1950, when we moved to Salem Oregon. This home was built in 1910 by my grandfather and grandmother. To continue the story started in this paragraph that I never knew Harriet`s husband (Bela Vining) that I knew of. They had a daughter, Laura Virginia Vining, (Jennie was her nickname) and she married my grandfather, Charles Atherton on Nov 11 1882.

They had the following children (my Aunts and Uncles)
      1. James Bela Atherton (my father) born Dec. 31, 1883--Died June 1951.
      2. Roger William [sic - Wilbur] Atherton born 7/22/85 Died 2/4/73
      3. Edward Revillo Atherton born 2/15/89 Died 9/12/54
      4. Laura Elizabeth born 11/17/ 91 died about 1984
      5. Ivy Fern born 4/15/84 died 5/18/66
      6. Mary Agnes born 11/3/1900 died 10/10/66
Note: I think I was told there were three other brothers and sisters, who died in infancy. I never heard their names.
It may be interesting to note that I was the first grandchild born to `jennie` and Charles Atherton and as of this date, 4/16/89 all my cousins ate [sic - are] deceased except:
      Charles Atherton (widower) born 1/19/12
Henry [sic - Marion] William Allison born 4/28/23 resides in Portland, Oregon.
Fern Virginia (Hawkins) born 10/21/23 living in Cambridge, Idaho.
Myrtle Bernice (now Benner) who was the husband of her sister, Mabel Winifred Benner, now deceased. Myrtle Bernice lives in Nampa, Ida.
Raymond Atherton, Born 2/12/31 and now living in Walnut Creek, California.
[note: cousin Art missed a few others living as of 4/16/1989: Mildred Allison Brown, Boise; John Atherton, San Jose; and all but one of Aunt Mary`s children, the Yarnells.]

NOW WE WILL DISCUSS THE UNRULED PAGES:

Page 1 tells of my grandfather and grandmother`s marriage and family. The rest is pretty much duplication of the ruled pages.

My father, James Bela was born in Dunlap, Iowa and my mother was born in NW Kansas in a sod house (Minnie Caroline Ingle) near a town that no longer exists.

My Cousin`s children have had a sizeable number of children, many of whom I do not know.
